This fountain is located on the former "Marcat" square. Erected in 1612 by Melchior Martin, a stone-carver, this beautiful stone urn keeps pouring the waters of the Malvan in a great polished basin. The springs were given by Queen Jeanne. Beautiful old dwellings overlook this square, such as that of the Barcillons', an ancient noble family from Catalonia that held public and religious office; that of Monseigneur de Laurens, Archbishop of Embrun; or that of the Bernardi, founding members of St Clement's chapel, in which a member of the Grimaldi family lived as governor of St Paul. |
